From 15 to 18 April 2015, Frankfurt Fair and Exhibition Centre will be the world’s most important showroom for trends and innovations in the musical-instrument sector – and the mecca for all music lovers. With over 1,000 concerts, autograph sessions, workshops, presentations and performances, Musikmesse is characterised by an extensive programme of events catering for all tastes, from classic, via funk and soul, to rock and heavy metal.

Full programme at the exhibitors’ stands
One of the big names at Musikmesse 2015 is star pianist Lang Lang who will present his multi-volume Piano Academy on Thursday, 16 April, and explain the instruction method live on a grand piano. Someone who normally makes far more noise will be at the fair the following Friday, 17 April: Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi, the doyen of heavy metal, will give autographs at the exhibition stands of Laney and Epiphone. On the Saturday (18 April), the pop-rock shooting stars of Luxuslärm will appear as part of the Musikmesse presentation of König & Meyer – as will musicians from bands Callejon, Heaven Shall Burn and Eskimo Callboy at the Ibanez stand. There will also be signing sessions at the stand of ESP, where visitors will meet members of the bands Donots and Children of Bodom. Aficionados of electronic music can look forward to performances by French DJ Fong Fong and DJane Maeva Carter at the Reloop exhibition stand. As well, DJ Frank Kvitta and DJane Gayle San will appear at the turntables of Audio-Technica while Trance DJ Armin von Buuren will offer insights into the production of his songs at the Producers Corner of Universal Audio.

The Musikmesse stages
At the Agora Stage on the Musikmesse outdoor area, visitors have the chance to see and hear numerous musicians in action including German ‘Schlager’ singer Guildo Horn, Daniel Erlandsson (Arch Enemy), Victor Smolski (Rage), Matt Halpern (Periphery), Ola Englund (The Haunted), Mike Terrana, Jeff Berlin, Mark Schulmann and Christoph Spendel. The noise level will be somewhat lower at the Acoustic Stage in Hall 3 where the focus is on ‘hand-made’ music with acoustic instruments. Among the artists appearing there will be YouTube star Tobias Rauscher, fingerstyle specialist Jaques Strotzem and percussionist Hakim Ludin.

FridayNight@Agora
The Exhibition Centre will not become an area of tranquillity after the fair closes for the day on the Friday of the fair, 17 April, and, beginning at 18.30, visitors can look forward to three top acts on the Agora Stage. The start will be made by the band UMC which are successful whith their unnusual cover versions of famous songs. Afterwards, the all-star-project Protocol II with Simon Phillips (drums) and Steve Weingard (keyboard) will perform, followed by Cher drummer Mark Schulman and his band. Closing the evening will be the jazz fusion trio Dirty Loops from Sweden.

Photo exhibition with rock’n’roll legends
An exhibition entitled ‘In the Eye of the Rock’n’Roll Hurricane’ will give Musikmesse visitors a unique insight into 45 years of rock history. It presents works by star photographer Neal Preston, who will also be at the fair in person. Preston is one of the world’s leading photographers and has taken more intimate photographs of legends such as Bruce Springsteen, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Queen and AC/DC than virtually any other. 65 of his works from the Lightpower Collection are on show as Fine Art prints in an elaborate exhibition in Hall 4.1.

Exciting musical experiences for the youngest visitors, too
From the pump organ to the sampling xylophone: Music4Kids sends visitors on a journey of musical discovery with extraordinary instruments, sound experiments and sound installations. Numerous musical activities and interactive concerts awaken the children’s interest in making music. Thus, the special exhibition is not only a magnet for the little ones but also for young people and families. Continuing interest is also ensured by special items on the programme, such as drum workshops with Dirk Brand (drummer of the successful German rock band Axxis) and the Reloop DJ Workshop. Another highlight: the 15 year old opera singer Sophie Schwerthöffer (launched to fame by the RTL television show ‘Das Supertalent’) will sing ‘Children of the World’ in the Music4Kids area.

Awards at Musikmesse
The www.drums.de Music Award will be presented for the fifth time in the ‘Festhalle’ on the Saturday of this year’s Musikmesse, 18 April. Given in five categories, it honours both newcomers and established bands and musicians. Pop singer Nevio and YouTube stars Kayef and T-Zone will perform during the ceremony. The Saturday of the fair also sees the finale of the SchoolJam competition when upcoming young musicians battle for the title of ‘Germany’s best school band’ – and have the chance to experience the atmosphere of a big concert stage in the ‘Festhalle’. Nine bands will sing and play in front of an expert jury.
Musikmesse is open to private visitors on the Friday and Saturday, 17 and 18 April. Tickets cost from € 20 (advance sales online) and at the reduced price of € 16 (students) or € 8 (children aged 7 – 14). Admission is free for children up to 6 years of age.
